This unique and beautiful image shows sun and moon haloes side by side. There was perfect halo conditions in the sky yesterday in Östersund, Sweden, so Swedish astrophotographer Göran Strand went out and shot a photo of the 22° solar halo.

This "time slice" image by photographer Dan Marker-Moore is a photograph of Shanghai created with 65 separate images captured over 1 hour and 53 minutes. By arranging the slices side-by-side, we see the passage of time in an image that shows the sun setting on a bustling city.
This photo, titled "A Day on the Beach," has been selected as this year's best mobile phone photograph in the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards. Italian photographer Turi Calafato captured the image on a beach in Sicily in July 2014.

50 years ago, civil rights photographer Matt Herron documented the Selma to Montgomery marches that highlighted racial injustices in the American South and helped to pass the Voting Rights Act that year. He ended up capturing one of the iconic photographs of the marches that remains recognizable to this day.
"Mirrored" is a photo project that was a collaboration between photographers Markus Andersen and Elif Suyabatmaz. It's a series of diptychs showing daily life on opposite ends of the globe: Andersen is based out of Sydney, Australia, and Suyabatmaz is based out of Istanbul, Turkey. During the total solar eclipse on March 20th, 2015, the Faroese doom metal band Hamferð took the opportunity to shoot a creative live music video for their song "Deyðir Varðar" from a mountain in the Faroe Islands. The Salt of the Earth is a documentary film released last year by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, the son of renowned Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado.
