With the release of the D750, much has been made of its ability to recover shadow detail. Given the range of talents that the D750 has it is strange that this has been singled out given that the D800 and D4, released in 2012, outperform it in this regard, and the cheaper D600 (also from 2012) is able to match it at base ISO. And the old guard, the D700, D3 and D3s, weren’t too shabby at recovery either!

With news of incredible shadow recovery typically there comes two responses: the hyperbolic “That’s amazing! I want one NOW!” and the cynical “you wouldn’t need shadow recovery if you exposed right.” There is, of course that third response: ‘I wish the 5D MkIII could do that’ but I won’t get into that here…

Here's both a neat picture and a mind-blowing fact for you. What you see above is the IBM Model 350 Disk File from 1956. It weighed over a ton, contained fifty 24-inch disks, and was leased to companies for $3,200 per month. It could hold... 3.75 Megabytes.

Nikon’s newly-announced D750 has impressed those who have managed to get their hands on it thus far, but to properly put it through its paces, DxOMark ran it through its trusted sensor tests.

We’ve known for a few weeks that a Nikon full frame camera is in the works. In our previous coverage we’ve shared some of the initial specs and a reported confirmation of the name, but today we have a few more thanks to a screenshot acquired by Nikon Rumors.

Nikon Rumors is reporting that the mystery full-frame camera Nikon is said to announce at Photokina next month, the one that some speculated would be a 'true' replacement for the D700, will actually be marketed as an "action" camera.

But don't take that to mean that this will be some sort of full-frame GoPro. It's not going to be an action camera in that sense. NR believes it will instead be a Nikon FF DSLR marketed specifically to action sports shooters.

The verdict is in, again. After giving Nikon’s D810 a spin, DxOMark has officially declared the D800 successor the king of sensors. While the improvements to the mid-term update may seem marginally small, DxOMark reports these minor tweaks provide “an excellent result” in improvements.

There are two ways to look at an incrementally improved DSLR: either the company missed an opportunity to improve something that has fallen behind the industry standard, or they are leaving well enough alone and not 'fixing it if it ain't broke,' so to speak.

News coming down the Nikon financial pipeline isn't good. Whether you're talking about official financial forecasts that mirror what we saw recently from Canon or unofficial sales numbers that don't look promising, the camera company may be coming up on some hard times.
