We can all agree on the fact that 4K is last year’s news and if you aren’t watching video at a resolution at least quadruple that resolution, then you might as well be watching in standard definition. Alright, maybe that's a tad bit extreme and premature, but if you do feel that way, then you’ll be happy to hear that YouTube now officially supports playback of 8K video.

In addition to the megapixel war, major camera companies are also engaging in a new superzoom war with their latest compact cameras. We recently shared the incredible reach of the 64x zoom on the Canon SX60 and the 83x zoom on the Nikon P900. If we ever somehow get to the point of 343x zooms appearing in cameras, the video above shows what that would be like.

Director of photography Miguel de Olaso, Macgregor and architectural photographer Art Sanchez have been working on a new technique called the "Quicklapse" that allows them to achieve 8K video with cameras such as the Nikon D800, which is normally limited to 1080p. The trick involves capturing 36.3MP still photos in burst mode and then using interpolation in post to turn the images into real-time footage.

The video above shows an example of what a Quicklapse video looks like (it's at a much lower resolution for web viewing, but the original data was shot at 8K).

Every architecture 101 class in college would do well to start off the semester with the above time-lapse by Luke Shepard. Over the course of three months he travelled to 36 cities in 21 countries to capture some of Europe's most beautiful architecture on camera. This time-lapse, titled Nightvision, is the result.

Most time-lapse videos of the night sky show stars as points of light, rotating around Earth's pole.
