85L

I got a $2,100 Canon 85mm f/1.2L for $145 earlier this year. To be honest, it was more like $145 plus a couple trips to Starbucks, but it was still a great adventure… and the secret to how I get most of my gear with what little budget I’ve got.

Here’s how I did it: trading.

Restaurant Finds that Smartphone Photos Have Doubled Table Times Since 2004

smartphonedinner

Not exactly a reliable scientific study, a recent Craigslist rant by one “Busy NYC Restaurant” that describes itself as “a popular restaurant for both locals and tourists” has gotten a lot of press time for drawing attention to a troubling intersection of food service and photography.

Posted in the rants and raves section of the online classifieds site, the restaurant supposedly compared security footage from 2004 with that from 2014 and found that taking cell phone photos and other smartphone shenanigans have added nearly an hour to the average table time at the restaurant. Craigslist Ad Seeks Digital Artist to Make it Look Like Abusive Boyfriend is Cheating

photoshopcraigslist

This is, bar none, the strangest Craigslist ad we have ever seen. In the past, the few ads we’ve shared typically involve people trying to hire photographers to work for free, but this is completely different.

Posted by a concerned family, they would like to hire a professional digital artist who can make it look like one of their relatives’ boyfriends is cheating. Just when you thought you’d seen it all… Excuse me for a moment while I climb atop my soap box. *Taps Mic* Check? Is this thing on? Okay.

craigslistridiculous

This was sent to me by a friend this morning and, after I opened it, I just sat staring at it. I could see it was a Craigslist ad, that much was evident, but I had to keep reading it over and over because the words just would not register. I knew they were English, and complete sentences were formed, but what it was asking went beyond my means of comprehension.

At first, I thought it was a joke. Then I realized, it wasn’t. Then I said a very very bad word.

What in the world is going on here!? Read more…

willworkforidiots

You don’t exactly have to be telepathic to know where this Boston-area photographer is coming from.
