Those slick gun-metal gray Nikon 100th anniversary special-edition cameras and lenses we told you about at the end of February have officially arrived. As it turns out, people who want to celebrate Nikon's centennial in style will have a lot more options than just DSLRs and lenses to choose from.
Fotodiox sells a wide range of adapters for using lenses and cameras of different mounts, but one particular adapter is causing a major headache for both photographers and the company. At least two photographers are claiming that their Sony mirrorless camera was ruined by the Fotodiox Fusion SmartAF Nikon to Sony adapter.

The oldest surviving Nikon camera is now also the most expensive. We reported back in October that the third Nikon 1 rangefinder ever made would be hitting the auction block at Westlicht with an estimated max value of $200,000. Well, that camera just sold for roughly $406,000, more than double the original estimate.
This Nikon 1 rangefinder from 1948 is the earliest known surviving production Nikon camera in the world. It's up for sale at the Westlicht camera auctions, where it's expected to fetch up to $200,000.

Swedish photographer Mattias Burling recently decided to experiment with shooting 4K video with his Microsoft Lumia 950 smartphone... through his collection of Nikon SLR lenses. Using an old 35mm adapter, Burling put together a rig that lets him shoot with a Nikkor 25mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.4, and 17-35mm f/2.8.
"This was a fun experiment taking advantage of the 4K video in the Lumia 950 and its awesome close focus distance," Burling says. "I used old Nikon glass and an old s35 adapter from the 'DV Days'."

Le Monde journalist Maxime Goldbaum tweeted the above photograph this morning as a hostage situation involving Charlie Hebdo suspects unfolded in Dammartin-en-Goële, France. It seems that the Nikon 1200-1700mm is a tool in Reuters' arsenal that's used to keep photojournalists at a safe distance.
Fans of vintage cameras, listen up, because we're run across a wonderful resource that could very easily consume hours upon hours of your time. Sounds good, right?
