DxOMark Reveals Which Lenses Perform Best on Nikon’s D800E

It’s fairly well-known that, when it comes to capturing images, more important than almost any camera body is the glass being put in front of it. However, there are times when your camera body plays a vital role in determining the quality of the image rendered by said glass.

To prove this and also help show off what glass performs best with a particular body, DxOMark has published a series of articles that break down what the best lenses are for the Nikon D800E.

Interestingly, some lenses performed significantly better in the tests when used with a D800E, even when compared to the almost identical D800. As you can see from the graph above, a number of lenses registered up to 30% sharper results with the D800E than their other optic buddies.

Following up on sharpness, DxOMark also shared a number of lists and collections of the best lenses as ranked by their “optical metric” scores. The list below shows the next best lenses measured on the D800E:

From there, DxOMark ranked the glass using their proprietary scoring system. Those results can be seen in the next chart:

Nikon Rumors managed to bring together both of the tests and come up with a concise overview by narrowing the results down to four lists, each consisting of the top 5 pieces of glass.

The categories put together by NR are: wide-angle prime, wide-angle zoom, standard & short telephoto prime, and telephoto primes & zoom lenses. You can see those lists at the bottom of their coverage of DxOMark’s articles.
