Zoe Spawton earns a living working as a waitress in Berlin. While setting up the restaurant’s sidewalk furniture at 9am, the 29-year-old Australian photographer regularly encounters Ali, an 83-year-old man who always seems to dress fashionably and obviously takes great pride in his appearance.
After a few weeks of befriending Ali, Spawton began to document the man’s outfits through portraits reminiscent of The Sartorialist. Soon, these portraits became a full blown project titled What Ali Wore.

For its H5D ad campaign, Hasselblad approached underwater photographer Henrik Sorensen, knowing that he would put together something worthwhile. The rise of a plethora of fashion blogs has led, almost inevitably, to the rise of a style of fashion photography known as “street style.” The all-access blogging medium gave photography enthusiasts who admired what legends like Bill Cunningham do a way to break into the industry and share both their opinions and pictures.
Over the past several years, however, the practice has exploded — much to the chagrin of big fashion editors and journalists who now have to deal with massive crowds of photogs outside of major fashion shows. Dave Fung and Yena Kim of New York City have brewed up a fun photo project that’s quickly gaining a lot of attention. It’s called Menswear Dog, and is what you might get if you combined The Sartorialist with a dog blog.

Artist, swimmer and former Olympian Casey Legler is in the process of adding another line to her resume: male model. As a model for Ford Models, Legler is making headlines over the fact that she models only men’s clothing for the agency. New York-Based designers Sarah Frances Kuhn (SFK) and Meredith Wendell are teaming up to bring a little bit more fashion into the world of photography. Only their fashion accessories won’t be displayed on a model standing in front of your camera, they’ll be keeping your camera securely attached to you.
The two designers have joined forces to create a new limited-edition run of colorful, fashionable (and also expensive) camera straps that are made from climbing rope, italian leather, polished chain and plaid. Read more…
International fashion magazine Numero is raising some eyebrows with its choice of photography for an editorial titled, “African Queen.” The piece features 16-year-old Ondria Hardin — a caucasian model — with heavily darkened skin.

New trend alert: Eric Wilson of the New York Times reports that fashion shows are starting to have built-in “Instagram moments,” in which models stop to pose for unofficial Instagram snaps:
[...] runway shows are hard to photograph, especially from the sidelines using a cellphone. A lot of people miss the shows entirely, so focused are they on taking pictures that are almost always out of focus. It all becomes a blur.
At the end of Prabal Gurung’s show this afternoon, however, all of the models walked onto the runway and stopped, each one taking a position under a spotlight and standing there for several seconds, offering an opportunity for editors to get a good shot. The same thing happened at the Creatures of the Wind show on Thursday. Call it the Instagram moment.
