How Photographs of Fighter Jets in Flight Are Captured

Aviation photographer Justin de Reuck has an awesome job: rather than do photo shoots in the comfort of a studio, he hops into fighter jets to photograph other airplanes in flight. This behind-the-scenes video shows him at work, snapping images while zipping around above the clouds and battling G-forces. The photographs that resulted from this shoot can be seen here.

New Fujifilm X-Pro1 Photos and Specs, Camera to Offer Film Simulation Modes

Fujifilm's beautiful X-Pro1 mirrorless camera isn't official yet, but we now have a clearer picture of what the system will look like after a few product pages for X-series lenses were accidentally published on Amazon (they've since been removed). In addition to new images of the camera itself, prices for the lenses were revealed: $500 for the 35mm f/1.4 and 18mm f/2.0, and $600 for the 60mm f/2.4. Also, get this: the camera will be able to simulate 10 different kinds of film (e.g. Provia, …

Nikon Website Briefly Shows the D800

Earlier today, the official website of Nikon Germany briefly showed a mysterious camera in an image of the company's DSLR lineup. It was quickly removed, but not before screenshots of the page quickly spread across the blogosphere. The camera in the photo looks identical to the photo of the Nikon D800 that leaked in November of last year.

Make a Custom Snow Globe Using Photos of Your House

Here's a fantastic project/gift idea for those of you who are both tech-savvy and artsy: make a custom snow globe of your house. The process involves capturing photographs of the house from all sides, turning the images into a 3D model of the home using a 3D modeling program (e.g. Google Sketchup), turning the 3D model into a physical object using a 3D printing service (e.g. Shapeways), and then sticking the object into a custom snow globe kit. Qarl has published a step-by-step tutorial on the …

Photographer in Parking Lot Captures ISS Passing In Front of the Moon

NASA photographer Lauren Harnett captured this photograph of the International Space Station passing in front of the moon. What's amazing is that it didn't require any fancy astronomy equipment -- Harnett was shooting from a parking lot using a Nikon D3S, 600mm lens, 2x teleconverter, heavy duty tripod and sandbag, and a remote shutter release. She shot at 1/1600, f/8, and ISO 2500 in burst mode, and then combined the resulting photographs into this one image.

It's neat seeing certain parts of the world light up with photo activity on special days.

A press release about the camera also appeared on Wells Fargo's website (screenshot here). We now know that the camera will offer a custom 16MP CMOS sensor, use Fujifilm's EXR processor …

To share his incredible journey, he created this beautiful time-lapse video with short glimpses into various locations he visited. Each 2 second segment is made up of about 40-60 still photographs.

Kodak Threatened with Stock Delisting as It Prepares to File for Bankruptcy

Kodak was warned by the New York Stock Exchange yesterday that its stock will be delisted if its price remains under $1 for the next six months. The stock has had an average closing price of below $1 for over 30 consecutive days now, and is no longer compliant with the NYSE's requirement for minimum share price. Sadly, the company might not last another six months: the Wall Street Journal reported today that the company is now preparing to file for bankruptcy, which will likely happen in the …

This is the latest leaked photo of Fujifilm's upcoming interchangeable lens camera, reportedly called either the X1 or LX10. The camera will probably be closer in size to the X100, though it will have an all black look that resembles the X10. There also appears to be some kind of handgrip on the camera, something that seemed likely after handgrip mounts were spotted in earlier leaked photos. We'll probably see an official announcement sometime in the next month or two.

A Year-Long Exposure of the Toronto Skyline

On January 1st of last year, photographer Michael Chrisman began shooting a solargraph by placing a pinhole camera in the Port Lands of Toronto and aiming it at the city's skyline. Over the next 365, the rising and setting sun slowly exposed the photo paper inside. The total exposure time? 31,536,000 seconds. Instead of developing the image using traditional darkroom chemicals, he instead used a scanner to capture the extremely overexposed image -- destroying the original image in the process …
