Sony’s Next G Master Zoom Lens Will be a 16-35mm f/2.8: Report

If you’ve fallen in love with Sony’s new high-end G Master line of lenses for the full-frame mirrorless A7 series, this should make you very happy. A reliable source is confirming that the next G Master zoom lens will be a 16-35mm f/2.8.

The news broke on sonyalpharumors, who has it from a “highly trusted source” that the next G Master lens is all but sure to be the 16-35mm f/2.8 FE GM. If that turns out to be true, the 16-35 will round out the series beautifully.

Once the lens has officially arrived, the GM line will run all the way from 16mm to 200mm in four lenses: the 16-35mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 85mm f/1.4, and 70-200mm f/2.8.

No confirmed word on when the next GM lens will become official, but SAR thinks (and we agree) that Photokina in September seems like the appropriate time to announce a fancy new piece of high-end glass.
