Everyone that knows me knows that I love shooting with extreme wide-angle lenses. When I had just gotten the original a7 and no native (fast) wide-angle lenses were available yet, I was always shooting with the Samyang 14mm.
Sony is preparing to add an ultra-wide "holy trinity" lens to its G Master lineup, the 12-24mm f/2.8 GM, but don't get too excited. According to the most recent rumors, not only will the lens be delayed, it also slated to cost thousands more than its direct competitors.
Sony Japan has issued a service advisory for a limited number of 16-35mm f/2.8 G Master lenses, which are apparently causing cameras to malfunction when attached. If your lens is affected, Sony will inspect and repair it free of charge.
Sony just debuted two new full-frame E-mount zoom lenses—one ultra lightweight, one premium. The 12-24mm f/4 G ultra-wide angle zoom falls into the former category, while the fast 16-35mm f/2.8 GM joins Sony's line of high-end G-Master lenses for pixel peeping sharpness fiends.
If you've fallen in love with Sony's new high-end G Master line of lenses for the full-frame mirrorless A7 series, this should make you very happy. A reliable source is confirming that the next G Master zoom lens will be a 16-35mm f/2.8.
