Closeup Photos of Frozen Flowers on Fruit Trees

Spring is a beautiful season in the Netherlands. Every year there are many different flowers to see and photograph. You might know me for my many years of photographing tulips, but there are so many more beautiful flowers to see in the Netherlands!

Magical Photos of Spring in the Netherlands

As a full-time landscape photographer, I normally travel the world a lot. But because of COVID-19, last year I was obviously mainly at home in the Netherlands. We’re currently in spring again and more than 1 year has passed. But spring is a magical season, especially here in the Netherlands.

Striking Twilight Portraits Capture the Loneliness of Lockdown

Dutch commercial photographer Roelof Bos has, like many of us, been looking for a creative outlet ever since his professional work ground to a screeching halt. But while many photographers have opted for in-door projects or "porchraits," he wanted to create something more stylistic... and striking.

Aerial Photos of Greenhouses at Night

Award-winning German photographer Tom Hegen recently took to the skies above The Netherlands at night and capturing striking photos of massive greenhouses illuminated in the landscapes below. The newly-published work is titled "The Greenhouse Series."

Photos of Dutch Tulips from the Ground and Sky

As a travel and landscape photographer, being on the road for a lot of time is nice, but I always try to be home during the tulip season. This isn’t always easy as the exact timing of the blooming is always quite random.

I Photographed Cherry Blossoms… in Amsterdam

I've been seeing lots of cherry blossom photos from many friends who are visiting Japan or Korea for their beautiful and famous cherry blossoms. I’m sitting here at home in the Netherlands for a change and figured I’d show how I don’t need to travel halfway across the globe to get these shots.

See the Netherlands’ Historically Cold Winter in Before-and-After Photos

Last week was extremely cold in my country, the Netherlands. February 28th was the coldest 28th of February in history, breaking the record set in 1904. It’s crazy to experience this kind of weather here while some of my friends in Norway and Iceland are having warmer weather.

Capturing a Snowy Day in Amsterdam

I can't remember seeing so much snow in our Dutch capital city of Amsterdam before. Yesterday afternoon, snow started falling out of the sky for hours and hours without stopping. Since I was already in Amsterdam, I took the opportunity of trying to document the atmosphere. The scene lasted for only a few hours before it started to rain in the evening.

Where and How to Shoot Tulips in The Netherlands

Spring came early this year. Almost one month earlier than last year in fact. The tulips in my country are currently in full-bloom, and now is the best time to see and photograph them. As a local and sort of "known" Dutch landscape photographer, I get bombarded with questions on where to find them via social media. I figured it would be easy to write a quick guide for all of you ‘tourists.'

Watch a Trained Police Eagle Take Down a Drone

Shady drone pilots take note: the eagles are coming for you. Dutch police began training eagles to take down illegal drones at the beginning of 2016. Now, eight months later, it's time to demonstrate how well these trained eagles do their job.

I Captured the Beauty of the Netherlands in 20 Photos

Over the years I’ve done a lot of travelling, but I always came back to my home country, the Netherlands. Being completely flat, having no mountains, no rocks, no skyscrapers, no good weather (usually), no super dark skies at night because of light pollution, I always feel a bit down when I come back from "spectacular" countries.

But that always goes away quickly. There’s a lot to appreciate in the Netherlands. Things that may be normal for us locals have incredible beauty for outsiders. This is the case in each and every country. This is my home in 20 photos, all taken within 1 year.
