Glyph Continues Its Expansion into Creator Support with New Card Readers

Earlier this year, Glyph pushed hard into the creator space with the launch of new SSDs and a line of CFexpress memory cards. It is continuing that trend with the announcement of memory card readers.

The series includes two new additions: the Glyph Capture+ CFexpress Type A USB4 Memory Card Reader and the Glyph Capture+ Dual SD Memory Card Reader. The company says these are designed to meet “the rigorous demands of modern film, photography, and audio workflows” and combine its SteadyIO technology (which is Glyph’s term for fan-less thermal sinking) with support for SD and CFexpress Type A cards, specifically targeting Sony photographers and filmmakers.

While Glyph currently doesn’t make any SD cards or CFexpress Type A cards, it recognizes that Sony photographers represent a huge part of the market. As such, the Glyph Capture+ CFexpress Type A USB4 Memory Card Reader promises what it characterizes as next-generation offload efficiency thanks to USB4 Type-C (40Gbps) connectivity. It can achieve transfer speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s, which Glyph says allows for data ingest up to 3x faster than traditional readers.

The Glyph Capture+ Dual SD Memory Card Reader features two SD card slots and can function as a dual-ingest device. But that versatility does come at a slight speed cost: this reader uses USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) connectivity with transfer speeds up to 1,000 MB/s. That is likely fast enough for most photographers using SD cards in their workflows, since the cards can’t operate at speeds any higher than that anyway.

The readers are constructed of a solid aluminum shell with an increased thermal ceiling and a protective soft composite bumper. Compact and bus-powered, Glyph says both models fit seamlessly into desktop and field setups across Mac and Windows environments.

Both the Glyph Capture+ CFexpress Type A USB4 Memory Card Reader and the Glyph Capture+ Dual SD Memory Card Reader will begin shipping in November, but availability may slip into December depending on demand. Both readers will be available directly from Glyph and authorized resellers. The Dual SD reader retails for $120, while the Type A reader will cost $150—the same price as Glyph’s existing Type B reader.
