Adobe released a beta version of its new Express mobile app for Android and iOS devices which also introduces the company’s Firefly generative AI technology into mobile content creation and editing workflows.

Since launching Firefly nearly a year ago, Adobe has consistently improved its AI model and integrated it into its suite of apps including Photoshop, Premiere, and the desktop version of Express. With the new smartphone beta version of Adobe Express, some of those same AI-powered features have gone mobile.

Firefly’s Generative Fill, text-to-image, text effects, and simple video editing features are included in the new Adobe Express mobile app.

“Millions of users around the world are turning to Adobe Express to create more content than ever before — more than doubling the number of creations ever made in just the last year,” says Govind Balakrishnan, Senior Vice President, Adobe Express and Digital Media Services at Adobe. “The new Adobe Express mobile app puts Firefly — our generative AI models — front and center, giving users unprecedented ways to create videos, designs, photos and images that stand out.”

The core mission of Adobe Express remains unchanged: to make it fast and easy for users to create compelling photo and video content, regardless of their level of experience and expertise. Adobe has consistently held that Firefly furthers this objective and empowers creators in new and exciting ways.

Explicitly calling out “solopreneurs” and “students,” key user bases Adobe targets with Express, the company says that Firefly enables swifter editing for TikTok and Instagram, more impressive school projects, and better marketing content for small businesses.

“Creative professionals can accelerate mobile content creation across social marketing teams with brand kits and seamless collaboration. The integration of Firefly with Adobe Express empowers enterprise marketers and knowledge workers to scale on-brand content creation to mobile devices,” Adobe promises.

The latest mobile version of Adobe Express (beta) includes other new features that aren’t reliant on Adobe Firefly’s generative AI, including new content templates, additional quick actions (like “remove background” and “resize image”), content scheduling, brand kits, and real-time collaboration tools.

The beta version is available directly through the Google Play Store, but iOS users must sign up on Adobe’s website due to Apple App Store restrictions.
