Fujifilm has announced a 3 billion yen investment in its Instax production facilities, equivalent to nearly $19 million at current exchange rates. It follows an even greater Instax investment the company announced nearly a year ago.

Fujifilm Corporation says its 3 billion yen investment is going to the Ashigara Site at its Kanagawa Factory and will “reinforce production facilities for Instax film.”

“In order to cater to the growing global demand for the instax series, Fujifilm has been continuously expanding the production capacity of instax film,” Fujifilm says in a press release. “The newly enhanced production facilities will begin operations in stages from spring 2027 and are expected to be fully operational from spring 2028. When the new production lines become fully operational, instax film production capacity will increase by approximately 20% compared to FY2026.”

Since Fujifilm launched Instax film in 1998, nearly 30 years ago, the company has found significant success. Arguably, Instax film really took off once digital had fully taken over the photography industry. Last year, Fujifilm announced that it had sold its 100 millionth Instax camera and printer. Just a couple of months ago, PetaPixel reported that, once again, Fujifilm’s Instax business made up much of Fujifilm’s overall profits.

This is actually the company’s second sizable investment into Instax production in less than a year. Last December, the company announced it was investing approximately 5 billion yen to expand its Instax production capabilities at the same Ashigara site in Kanagawa. The expansion was slated to begin in spring 2026, but Fujifilm clearly believes even more is necessary.

Fujifilm noted today that it has been continuously expanding Instax production capabilities since 2022. Once the latest investment is realized, product capacity will have increased by about 70% since FY2022.

Fujifilm’s first recent investment in 2022 was about 2 billion yen, and the company invested another 4.5 billion yen in Instax production the following year.

“Fujifilm will continue to explore the limitless possibilities of photography, expand the world of instax instant photo system that allows people to enjoy on-the-spot photo printing,” Fujifilm promises. The company’s Instax success surely shows no signs of slowing down.
