- PetaPixel 8.5/10
The EOS R8 II never really feels like a compromise, even if, in some ways, it is.
-
[T]his is overall a very capable camera even before you factor in its price and size.
-
Canon’s EOS R8 Mark II builds upon the compact R8 from the more affordable end of the full-frame series.
-
In fact, it gains some very significant additions, which promise to make it the best Canon camera yet for those buying into full-frame for the first time.
-
The EOS R8 Mark II is Canon's entry-level full-frame mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with a fun, modern retro design. This affordable, lightweight, compact, high-performing camera body features an outstanding AF system and delivers impressive image quality.
-
[I]t is a fantastic camera with a lot of great features from autofocus to the sensor to how many frames per second you can shoot.
-
The Canon EOS R8 Mark II fixes nearly all of our biggest complaints about the original, adding in-body stabilization and a joystick, while carrying the same sensor and processor as the original. The result is an entry-level full-frame camera that feels far from basic.
-

-
If you're looking to take your work to the next level, if you're looking to enhance your creativity, perhaps get your first full-frame camera, I highly recommend you check out the R8 Mark II.
-
We have definitely put the R Mark II through a lot over the past few days and our main takeaway has been that this guy is an excellent jack-of-all-trades camera for anyone looking to upgrade from an older body or make the big leap from smartphones into full-frame mirrorless [...]
-
Now, overall, it's a super fun camera to have and definitely you can see such a vast improvement from the original R8.
-
It's relatively modest compared to the past few releases, but the R8 Mark II is a better camera in practice than it is in theory.
-
It is comfortable ergonomically, and the autofocus speed is fast and efficient.
-
The R8 II is a swell camera, but Canon is so good that if you want light weight or high performance, there are already better choices.
-
The images are stunning, the video is very nice, and using it day to day is very easy.
-
I think that it rides a line of being a good small full-frame camera that offers a lot across the board.
-
The Canon EOS R8 Mark II addresses my two main complaints about the original R8 by adding in-body image stabilisation and a joystick.
