LumiCard Is a Compact Light That Magnetically Attaches to Your Phone
Blind Spot Gear, the company behind the Power Junkie, has announced the LumiCard, a new wirelessly-powered credit card-sized LED that attaches to the back of a smartphone to provide instant light.
The LumiCard can magnetically attach to magnetic phone cases and supports wireless charging. The five-watt light delivers 500 lumens of power and promises a Television Lighting Consistency Index (TLCI) rating of 97. The LumiCard’s color temperature is 5,600 Kelvin (daylight).
Alongside wireless charging, the device includes a USB-C port, meaning it can be powered directly from a compatible smartphone, like the new iPhone 15 series, or a power supply. LumiCard can also be flipped out to the side to provide lighting when using self-facing cameras. When not in use, the LumiCard tucks away in someone’s wallet or pocket.
The light is 85mm wide, 54mm tall, and 3mm thick. It weighs just 27 grams. It is also weather-resistant and sports an IP67 rating.
The LumiCard is designed for content creators and users needing more light for photo or video recording. “While smartphones have revolutionized photography, inadequate and inaccessible lighting solutions have held users back from realizing their full creative vision,” explains Blind Spot Gear’s Billy Campbell. “LumiCard removes the boundaries in portable lighting, providing unmatched quality and convenience in a device that fits right in your wallet,” Campbell continues.
LumiCard is not only easy to use with the latest iPhone 15 models, thanks to their new USB-C ports, but it also works with older iPhone models, plus a wide range of Android smartphones from manufacturers like Google, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, vivo, Poco, Realme, OnePlus, and many more.
Blind Spot Gear also emphasizes that the LumiCard works with many cases, and the light ships alongside a MagSafe sticker to ensure that non-magnetic cases can be used. The company recommends cases from Peak Design and Moment as its top picks.
As an add-on option, the LumiCard can also be bought alongside the LumiKit. This includes the LumiDiff, a diffuser designed to soften the LumiCard’s light to provide more flattering results. It also includes the LumiRing, a magnetic adapter that doubles as a kickstand, allowing users to attach the LumiCard to their laptop or phone for selfies and video calls.
Pricing and Availability
Right now, LumiCard is only available on Kickstarter. Early bird pricing starts at £39, which is just under $50. This package includes the LumiCard, a custom USB-C cable, and a MagSafe sticker. The LumiCard is expected to ship in April 2024 and will ultimately retail for just over $70. The complete details of all backer options are available on Kickstarter.
