[...] I think that Sony has crafted an absolute winner in the FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS.
The Tamron 12-20mm F2.8 is a very interesting new direction for Tamron.
The Sony RX10V is a clear improvement over any bridge camera I’ve used in the past, managing to do a pretty good impression of a good mirrorless camera with an all-in-one lens attached most of the time.
Sony knows how to do high resolution better than anyone, and the Sony α7R VI is Exhibit A in the defense. High resolution has many strengths, but it also comes with definite liabilities.
I would say that the Thypoch Voyager 24-50mm F2.8 is a little easier to contemplate, as it brings the uniqueness of an internal zoom to the equation (very useful!) along with a much smaller price tag of just $650. It is genuinely smaller than competing lenses [...]
It’s a rare privilege to get to review a lens that completely upends a segment, but such is the case with Sony’s new 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS lens.
The fast partially stacked sensor, blackout free viewfinder, fast burst rate, and deep buffers all result in a sports camera that photographers in the DSLR era could only dream of…at any price.
[I]f the zoom range works for you, I think you're going to be pretty delighted with the overall performance of this lens.
[S]hows the polish of being a second generation lens. It feels more sophisticated than the first generation lens [...]
It is great to see Sigma start to pop out these higher-performing, more feature-rich Contemporary primes. The Sigma 15mm F1.4 DC | Contemporary joins last year’s 12mm F1.4 as being a step up from previous lenses in the series.
My review of the Fujifilm X-T30 III has been a rather complicated one. On the style front, this is best-looking sub $1000 APS-C camera on the market.
On Nikon, however, the Z-mount version is a clear upgrade over the Nikkor Z 50mm F1.4 that I own, so I’ll probably move the Nikkor and invest in another Nikon lens instead. I really loved the lens on my Z8, finding the performance and optics a great fit for the Nikon sensor.
It’s the kind of lens that can do pretty much anything, and while it isn’t small or light, it makes up for it with extremely versatility and strong performance.
[T]he Canon RF 45mm F1.2 STM is an interesting addition to Canon’s lineup. The list of strengths and weakness are probably equal, as while the lens is small, light, and bright, it also has many optical shortcomings [...]
It essentially realizes many of the promises made by the original α1, giving us a camera that just works better.
The Sony a7V is triumph on many levels, and, like with the Canon R6 Mark III, moves the “mid-level” camera further into premium territory. At this point the main reason to choose the a7RV or the Canon R5 Mark II is more about the resolution than any other metric.
For many wedding or portrait photographers, a good 24-70mm F2.8 is their “if I had just one lens” lens.
Well, you've probably already figured out that I'm pretty impressed with this LAB lens, and I feel like it's a really, really competitive option here on Z-mount [...] but literally at one-third of the price.
Canon used to be notorious for “crippling” their lower tier cameras to protect the higher tier options, but the R6 MKIII feels like anything but that.
[F]or this price tag, this is an amazing optical instrument.
The Sirui Aurora 35mm F1.4 is a positive evolution of the Aurora series. It feels like a slightly more mature effort, with a more sophisticated build and slight improvements to the optical performance relative to the 85mm.
The Sigma 20-200mm simply tries to do too much and, I believe, suffers for it. I appreciate the extra bit of width on the 25-200mm VXD, and, while it isn’t penalty free, I think that the compromises to get that extra 3mm on the wide end are more palatable.
If your priority is optical performance (and value), you will be delighted by this lens, but if your priority is to travel light, well, have you considered the Viltrox AF 50mm F2?
