- PetaPixel 8.5/10
Sigma has added a sharp, affordable, and handy lens for anyone looking for a versatile prime wide-angle optic.
-
In my test, the optical quality was also improved over the older 16 mil, although it still benefits from stopping down for the sharpest results in the corners.
-
Use this lens for landscapes, nightscapes, architecture, environmental portraits, events, and many other needs. The purchase is light on your wallet, small in the case, and the lens is light in your hand. The images this lens produces make it well worth it.
-
It is great to see Sigma start to pop out these higher-performing, more feature-rich Contemporary primes. The Sigma 15mm F1.4 DC | Contemporary joins last year’s 12mm F1.4 as being a step up from previous lenses in the series.
-
So it definitely comes recommended.
-
As if it wasn't enough, the new Sigma that costs $580 manages to defeat the Sony E 15 mm f/1.4 G, which is $270 more expensive, in a significant number of categories and in other categories you see at least a draw.
-
The new 15mm lens is 50% lighter, 30% shorter and has a reduced filter size from 67mm to 58mm, when compared to the 16mm f/1.4 lens that it replaces. The performance is still maintained. The handling is enhanced by the inclusion of a control ring/aperture ring.
-
I like that the Sigma 15mm f/1.4 DC | C is just a little slip of a thing. Ideal for walkabout and travel photography, it combines a generous viewing angle with a cut-down, compact and lightweight yet robust build.
-
The Sigma 15mm F1.4 DC Contemporary is a nifty little prime lens for APS-C cameras. I like its small size (it's far easier to carry than the 16mm F1.4 Contemporary, which it supplants) and I love its instant, silent autofocus. Image quality is also excellent.

For stills and video shooters who want a fast, sharp, genuinely portable wide prime at a great price, this may well become the new benchmark. No image stabilisation, custom buttons or de-clickable aperture, but fast f/1.4 max.
-
The Sigma 15mm f/1.4 DC Contemporary is a compelling choice and offers accurate and good value for the money.
-
The Sigma 15mm lens for APS-C cameras is a prime that punches well above its weight. While not perfect, image quality is impressive from the widest aperture onwards, paving the way for creative results across the full range of genres this field of view covers.

[I]f you are in the market for a good quality high-performance, wide aperture wide-angle prime lens, this is one of your best options.
