While it provides a significant performance upgrade over standard kit lenses, users should expect some corner softness and geometric distortion at the widest focal lengths.

It's rare to see a lens that brings such a high level of usefulness at such a low price to so many camera systems.

The Tamron 16-50mm F2.8 A is a compact, lightweight, affordable lens that provides a wide aperture throughout an extremely useful range of general-purpose focal lengths.
-
The Tamron 16-50mm F2.8 A isn’t exotic or exciting, but it is very welcome. Photographers tend to get excited over the extreme lenses, but lenses like the 16-50mm F2.8 are far more likely to end up on actual cameras.

I think this might be a kit lens killer because you're getting this really versatile zoom lens but you have a fixed rate aperture at F 2.8. So, it's not variable. You're getting that low light fast capability and not only that, it's a really good price.

[T]his is a superior step up from a kit lens for an APS-C sensor.
