Strong

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II is a versatile all-in-one bridge camera that excels at video capture and features a sharp 24-200mm f/2.8 lens. Although it offers impressive 4K and high-speed recording capabilities, the high price tag and lack of touchscreen functionality may give some potential buyers pause.

So while the Sony RX10 II can handle itself well in many shooting scenarios, sports photography is not one it excels at.

[I]f they do matter — and for many of you they will — then it seems that the RX10 II is still the cream of the crop. And for that, you’ll certainly pay a premium, but a worthwhile one I think.

[T]he FZ1000 is an ideal super-zoom for someone who wants the benefit of a 1in sensor and a longer zoom range but doesn’t need the higher-end pro features of the RX10 series.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II definitely souping up the video area, maybe not so much the stills, but a great all-around true hybrid camera. It's a hell of a camera, guys.

  • The introduction of a new high speed 1inch CMOS sensor enables high speed video, as well as 4K video recording, and high speed continuous shooting.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II premium superzoom offers serious video upgrades, but it's priced a bit higher than it should be.

So for those who don't want to worry about lugging around a huge kit bag full of different optics it's a great option – travelling photographers in particular may find it appealing.

To make it a really serious alternative to the RX100 IV, it should offer a lot more than it does, or Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II does, is make me think that the RX100 IV is the much smarter buy.

  • Like its predecessor, the RX10 Mark II packs a lot into a relatively compact camera body and is worthy of consideration by anyone who wants a premium, long zoom camera with a larger than average (12.8 x 9.6 mm) sensor and 4K movie recording capabilities.

  • Pocket-lint

It's big, it's bold, and while it's not exactly giant leaps ahead of where the original RX10 was, the RX10 II is one highly capable camera that's hard not to recommend. Even though it won't be the camera for everyone, for those it suits it certainly won't disappoint.

This is a hugely impressive camera and, even without counting its tricksy high-speed antics, incredibly versatile.

It does a lot and it has an impressive built-in zoom lens, but the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II's video capabilities are what really stand out.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II accomplishes everything in one, under one roof, something that until Panasonic updates the FZ1000 leaves it as the king of the hill of bridge cameras in every single way.

For me, it's really the lens that sells the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II: manually controlled, wide constant aperture, versatile zoom, and great macro capability. Then Sony's technology leadership in areas from downloadable apps to picture profiles seal the deal.
