The Sony FE 24-105mm f4G OSS is a general-purpose lightweight zoom for Sony's full-frame mirrorless cameras upon which it'll take you from wide-angle to short telephoto.

It may not be able to touch the center quality of the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM, but the border quality is surprisingly high for such a lens - at least when stopping down to f/5.6.

The release of the FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS gives users of Sony’s full-frame mirrorless camera bodies an excellent, sub $2,000 midrange full-frame zoom lens capable of fully exploiting megapixel rich camera bodies like the A7RIII.

  • The Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS performs very well indeed on a technical level, but also produces clean, sharp, smooth images that give overall an impressive aesthetic result.

Despite only being a "G" designated lens, rather than a more expensive "GM", the new Sony FE 24-105 f/4 G OSS is certainly one sharp optic, both through the focal and aperture range.

Sony's FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS zoom is pricier than similar lenses for other systems, but it's also a better performer.

  • If you had to choose just one lens to take with an α7 camera while travelling, this would be the one. It’s a fine companion to the α7M3 we used for our review and should be as good a fit with any of the other models in the series, as well as the α9.

I'm going to be doing travel vlogs and so forth next year while I'm away and I figured I'd get a one and done lens for the majority of that work and I'm really happy with the results.

For a long time I've been looking for a perfect all-in-one lens that I could just take one lens with me everywhere and not have to worry about carrying any other lenses, and I think I finally found it in the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS.

Now, the main point that I want to get across to this is that this isn't a perfect lens, but when it comes to a whole bunch of versatility, especially with the 24 at the wide end and 105 at the telephoto end, this is a phenomenal lens.

[T]his is the lens you want if you're looking for the best mid-range FE zoom without breaking the bank (or pushing down the scales too far).

It's sharp at all apertures, it is a do-it-all lens, and it is great for simply carrying one lens on longer hikes as it produces the goods and does it very well.

This Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS is the world's best midrange zoom. It offers spectacular optical performance as well as first-rate mechanical construction at half the price of similar lenses, and it's smaller, lighter and has better ergonomics than the more expensive lenses.

Given its price point, it is a bit more on the expensive side, but I would definitely rate this lens higher for anyone's list if they're actually looking at getting it, but not only for the size and weight, but also in terms of performance.

I think this is an excellent lens and I’m very happy with the quality of photos and videos that I’ve been able to capture with it. However, I do find that maximum aperture of f/4 to be a little bit limiting.

[...] I’ve found that the Sony SEL24105G FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS Zoom lens to be well-deserving of the praise heaped upon it by the digital photography community.

If I were to choose only one lens for a day trip, or even for a multi day trip, this would be the lens I would choose for my Sony kit. If you decide, like I did, that this is the right lens for you, you won’t be disappointed.
