While the rolling shutter performance, crop in 4K60p and few UI quirks make it hard to recommend this camera to absolutely anyone interested in video, it’s undoubtedly still worth considering if you’re looking to get into vlogging or videography [...]

[I]n summary, I've really loved using the Canon EOS R50 V here. A good litmus test for me is that I recorded and published a video using it instead of our usual like $5,000 video rig and nobody complained.

At the end of the test, I was really impressed. The EOS R50 V was small, compact, easy to mount onto a gimbal, and shot superb footage – especially considering that it also shoots Canon Log 3 and blends in with some more professional cameras.

At the end of this Canon EOS R50 V review I realise that Canon hasn’t just chopped up the R50 and repackaged it. They’ve taken a step back, looked at what modern creators actually need, and delivered something that answers those needs directly.

For some, the original Canon R50 makes a lot of sense, but for others, the updated video features, smaller form factor, and vertical shooting options in the Canon EOS R50 V make it the better choice.

Here’s how it works. Although the EOS R50 V’s design is rather bare bones, delve deeper and there’s plenty of meat on the menu here for more adventurous image makers, with the consistent Canon quality to match our digital desires.

I like it that Canon allows multiple custom settings to be assigned and quickly accessed via the mode dial. However, switching between the standard photography modes still requires digging into the menu, which slows things down a bit.

Long story short, if you don't have the expectation you get performance from a $4,000 camera, some kind magically now in a $700 body. This Canon EOS R50 V is a real winner from Canon.

While the core imaging specs aren’t drastically different from the R50, the user experience is greatly improved for vloggers and streamers. It’s a strong entry point into the Canon EOS ecosystem for creators, and the bundled kits offer good value for those starting out.

This $600 camera punches way above its weight, and it delivers results that I think genuinely hold up next to some of my much more expensive cameras, and it makes this a no-brainer for people that mainly shoot 4K 24, 25, or 30p.
