Fujifilm Celebrates 90th Anniversary with Elegant Gray and Gold Instax Mini Evo Cameras

Alongside the new Instax Mini Link 3 smartphone printer, Fujifilm also unveiled a limited edition version of its Instax Mini Evo hybrid instant camera to celebrate Fujifilm’s 90th anniversary.

This isn’t the first 90th-anniversary product Fujifilm has released this year, as the company also launched a very limited special version of the Fujifilm X100VI camera, which sold out instantly and proved an attractive target for scalpers. Fortunately, the 90th-anniversary version of the Instax Mini Evo is not that limited, and is currently available to preorder ahead of an October 25th release date.

The fancy new Instax Mini Evo edition comes in two colors, dark silver, and titanium gold, and is part of Fujifilm’s 90th Anniversary Bundle. The bundle comes in a premium-finish package with a limited-edition matching strap, lens cap, and a case. In the case of the dark silver version, the cap and strap have gray accents, while the titanium gold camera ships with gold-trimmed accessories. In both cases, the camera has Fujifilm’s original logo from 1934, the same as the celebratory X100VI body.

Aside from the appearance and included accessories, the Instax Mini Evo Limited Edition is the same as other Instax Mini Evo cameras. It is a hybrid digital/instant film camera that captures digital images that can be instantly printed onto Instax Mini instant film.

Relying on digital image capture, the camera offers users 10 lens effects and 10 film effects, resulting in 100 unique combinations. Users cycle through these different effects using retro-inspired controls. The film dial switches the film effects, while the lens dial controls lens effects. A “film advance lever” is also used to instantly print a selected photo. Users interact with their images and choose their photos for print on the camera’s rear 3-inch LCD, which has approximately 460k dots.

Two digital camera backs, one gray and one beige, are shown side by side against a dark background. Both feature a central screen, round and square buttons below the screen, and textured grips around most of the body. The design and layout are identical.

The camera sports a fixed 28mm (equivalent) f/2 lens with a minimum focusing distance of about four inches (just under 10 centimeters). The Instax Mini Evo has a small CMOS image sensor — Type 1/5. This is considerably smaller than nearly every smartphone image sensor, but of course, the sensor is designed to capture photos printed on Instax Mini instant film.

The camera has a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can make up to 100 prints per charge, and it’s charged via USB. It also has internal memory to store 45 images, but the camera has a microSD card slot to store additional photos. Beyond printing photos captured by the Instax Mini Evo itself, users can also wirelessly connect their smartphone to the camera and print pictures from their phones.

Pricing and Availability
