ZY Optics’ Three T/1.0 Lenses for Super 35 are Fast and Affordable
Zhong Yi Optics (ZY Optics) has announced the Mitakon Speedmaster 20mm/35mm/50mm Super 35 T1 Cine Lens Set. The trio of cinema lenses offers APS-C users three very-fast prime lenses with T1.0 transmission.
While f-stop and T-stop are not always interchangeable, they are similar enough to know that the new Mitakon Speedmaster primes promise silky soft bokeh and shallow depth of field.
Designed for Super 35 (APS-C) image sensors, the new cine lens set is available for Canon RF, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, and Sony E mount cameras.
While each of the three new lenses differs in weight, they share identical physical designs. Each manual focus lens has 270 degrees of focus throw and a manual aperture ring with a 60-degree throw. Each lens has a nine-bladed aperture, 77mm filter thread, and 88mm diameter. Each lens is 3.7 inches (93 mm) long.
The Mitakon 20mm S35 T1.0 has 13 elements organized across eight groups, while the 35mm and 50mm lenses include 11 elements in eight groups. The lightest lens in the group is the 35mm prime, weighing 1.4 pounds (640 grams). At 1.8 pounds (820g), the 50mm T1.0 is the heaviest of the three new cine lenses. The 20mm T1.0 splits the difference at 1.6 pounds (730g).
While the different weight values could affect balance in certain rigs, each lens includes constant, unified gear positions. This should make it very easy to swap lenses on the fly without reconfiguring setups.
Given that the lenses are built for cinematographers, Zhong Yi Optics also promises low focus breathing and minimal distortion during focus throws. The lenses also promise accurate colors, although ZY Optics does not mention any specialized coatings or elements to improve image quality.
Pricing and Availability
The three new S35 T1 cinema lenses are available separately for $499. The Mitakon Speedmaster 20mm/35mm/50mm T1 Cine Lens Set is available now for $1,299 and includes a protective hard case for all three lenses.

Zhong Yi Optics also offers a four-lens T/1.0 Mitakon Speedmaster set for Micro Four Thirds cameras, which the company rounded out last October with the 50mm T/1.0 lens. The four-lens set includes 17mm, 25mm, 35mm, and 50mm T/1.0 cinema lenses for $1,339.
