This lens on the other hand is the first Sony lens where I think there is actually a tangible advantage over the competition, not just a higher price tag.
The Sony FE 24-50mm 2.8 G is still a very good lens by itself though, so if the combination of fast f/2.8 aperture, somewhat restricted zoom range but starting at 24mm and small size are what you are looking for, I am sure you will be happy with it.
I actually consider this being the most versatile fast 50mm M-mount lens, especially thanks to its unrivalled minimum focus distance coupled with the floating elements design. This is the do-it-all 50mm M-mount lens for me.
Back in the day I have been using two samples of this lens on my Nikon DSLRs and it was a real pain.
Taking into consideration this is an f/0.95 lens (and having used almost all the other f/0.95 lenses in existence myself) it shows an absolutely amazing, almost otherworldly performance.
At the end of the day, this Viltrox 135mm 1.8 LAB is a very good lens, but some of the competitors are even better.
When it comes to the Chinese lens manufacturers so far the one with the most advanced products was Laowa.
Personally, I find the range of this lens very appealing and if I was looking for a standard zoom for travel, I would strongly consider this one.
This AF 56mm f/1.7 is Viltrox’s budget short telephoto portrait lens, but its performance is way beyond a budget lens in traditional sense.
The Viltrox AF 27/1.2 PRO is a great, very well-built, feature-rich lens that produces extremely sharp images at all apertures, everywhere in the frame.
In terms of optical performance this is generally a fine lens. It is nice to have the f/2.8 option in a lens this wide, as it allowed me to take some handheld shots during the blue hour that would have otherwise been too noisy without a tripod.
If you want the fastest available lens with decent characteristics for your APS-C camera and don’t mind manual focusing, this is the lens for you.
You can still use this lens for astrophotography, as it has good control over the worst type of coma, just put the most important part of the sky in the center of the frame.
If you want to have a good and sharp macro lens around standard focal length that you also can use for general photography and do not care much about the size/weight, or electronic contacts, then it is strongly recommended.
If you already have one of the other GM primes, you are happy with it and want to extend your line up into the ultra wide realm this one won’t disappoint.
We don’t need a longer conclusion here: the image quality is outstanding, bokeh is nice, the build quality and controls hardly leave something to be desired and even the price is fair.
[T]he Sony FE 20mm 1.8G is a lens that you will hardly read anything negative about and there are good reasons for that: sharpness is more than good enough, flare resistance is very good, coma correction is good [...]
The Leica M digital cameras are cameras that today no photographer needs, but thanks to great marketing, brand image and history many want.
In terms of sharpness this 45mm 0.95 actually has the edge. Off center performance at portrait distances is slightly better, which is very welcome, and the close up performance is significantly better.
The 85mm 5.6 unfortunately follows the footsteps of the Laowa 10-18mm 4.5-5.6: a lens that sounds really great on paper (at least to me), but in the end has one flaw too many. As it is, it really needs a controlled environment with no stray or backlight to yield good results.
So far f/0.95 fullframe lenses have been special purpose lenses for shallow depth of field photography with plenty of compromises, too many compromises for myself to consider using them on an everyday basis.
If you are using a fullframe camera it is probably a better idea to get a good 50mm f/1.4 lens in the first place which will do the same thing in a more compact package.
I can only recommend this lens in case you are looking for a very light and sharp, yet very 50mm lens for your landscape kit. In case budget and/or weight are less critical to you there are plenty other options which are better optically and more enjoyable to use.
