Reviewer Consensus

Strong

The Lomo Petzval 55mm f/1.7 Mark II is a specialized portrait lens that offers unique swirly bokeh effects through an adjustable control system. While it provides a fun and creative experience for photographers, the manual-only operation and steep learning curve make it a niche tool rather than an everyday lens.

As a vintage-style tool, it’s actually really fun and strong at what it does. It can give you that crazy, super-swirly bokeh, or go the other way and produce softer, painterly backgrounds.

The Lomography New Petzval 55mm f/1.7 MKII is the best version of the lens the company has delivered to date—the very welcome addition of an internal aperture alone is worth choosing it over first two versions, which were offered for SLR systems.
