There’s a ‘Bluey’ Photography Game and It Might Actually Be Good

Kids love Bluey, enjoy games, and sometimes really like photography. Now it’s possible to combine all three of these things in a single experience: the Bluey Happy Snaps video game for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Releasing later this week, Bluey’s Happy Snaps promises a lighthearted, kid-friendly photo adventure. The titular blue heeler puppy, Bluey, teams up with her younger sister, Bingo, to take their dad’s old Polaroid-style camera out into the world and snap photos of the games they enjoy and the wildlife they discover. The dynamic duo explores areas familiar to viewers of the show, and players can turn their virtual masterpieces into an interactive scrapbook.
“Join everyone’s favorite blue heeler in Bluey’s Happy Snaps, a playful interactive adventure inspired by the hit TV series,” Nintendo writes. “Explore familiar locations, play with loads of toys, or chase cheeky bin chickens, and enjoy fun activities with Bluey, Bingo, and friends.”
Obviously this is a kid-friendly game, based on a show that is especially popular with preschool and elementary school children, but if the reputable games journalists over at Nintendo Life are to be believed, Bluey’s Happy Snaps might be a genuinely good photography game for kids.
“The aim is simple: take photos of stuff. Yeah, that’s really it! Starting at the Heeler’s home, you’re tasked with taking photos of specific objects and creatures around the environment. Take photos of the right things, and you’ll fill in the accompanying sticker in your scrapbook. Once you’ve completed at least 15 stickers, you can move on to the next area,” Nintendo Life‘s Ollie Reynolds writes.
“Gameloft has done a good job in making it as accessible as possible for youngsters, too. Every single menu option includes voiceovers from Bandit and Chilli’s respective voice actors, so if your little ones aren’t quite there yet with their reading, they can still understand what to do,” Reynolds concludes, scoring the game an 8 out of 10.

Hopefully the game will inspire kids to pick up a camera in real life and enjoy photography beyond their Switch. The game also includes various “For Real Life” activities to encourage young players to play out in the real world.
Bluey’s Happy Snaps looks like a fun way for photographers with young kids to share their passion and help their kids explore a popular animated television series. The game launches on Thursday, October 15, for $39.99 on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. On PC, the game will be available on Windows through Steam and Epic Games.
