The Winners of the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2022
The Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2022 has announced the winning images that showcase the best photos that feature food from around the world.
Launched in 2011, the competition welcomes both professionals and nonprofessionals and has seen more than 80,000 photos submitted from 96 countries in that time. The Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year says its categories cover the full cultural range of the depiction of food in society, from styled food for magazines to images of families eating together in celebration of religious festivals, from depictions of the realities of food production to food growing in its natural setting.
“As Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year enters its second decade, never has the importance of photography and food been so great,” Phil Turnbull, CEO of APAL, owner of Pink Lady®, and headline sponsor of the Awards since 2011 says. “Huge global events — war, famine, the end of lockdowns, the revival of the hospitality industry, the chance to celebrate with friends and family again — all these are recorded in the Awards, which show so vividly how food touches every aspect of our lives. The competition continues to be a truly global celebration of the art of food photography.”
The exhibition of the 2022 Finalists will be premiering at The Royal Photographic Society, one of the world’s oldest photographic societies, in Bristol. The exhibition will run from November 20 through December 12, 2022. Entry is free.
Overall Winner
The image above, titled “Kebabiyana” by Debdatta Chakraborty from India, took top honors in the competition and is also the winning image in the Street Photography competition. The photo depicts a street vendor enveloped by the smoke of grilled wazwan kebabs.
“Khayyam Chowk is an alleyway in Sri Nagar, which is no different from other streets during daytime. But, in the evening, numerous charcoal ovens are lit up by vendors and the aroma and smoke of wazwan kebabs turn this street into a food-lovers’ paradise,” the photo’s caption reads.
In addition to having his work displayed in the Royal Photographic Society’s exhibition, Chakraborty also wins the £5,000 (about $6,221) grand prize.
