ZY Optics Unveils Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon DSLRs

ZY Optics has just added a new member to its “Speedmaster” lineup of lenses. Meet the new Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 lens for the Canon EF mount, hailed as the “world’s only f/0.95 lens designed for DSLR systems in production.”

Lest you think that this is just the mirrorless version of the lens—currently available for the Sony FE, Nikon Z, and Canon RF mounts—fear not, Mitakon says that it’s a different optical design that was specifically created for Canon DSLRs. In fact, the rear element is so large that ZY says they couldn’t make a Nikon F-mount option.

Optically, the lens is made up of 12 lens elements in 6 groups, including one High-Refractive Index (HRI) optic and five Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) optics that join forces to minimize chromatic aberration and promise “exceptional image quality.” Of course, image quality isn’t necessarily your main goal with this lens; it’s that sweet sweet bokeh, which this lens delivers in spades thanks to an 11-blade diaphragm and a maximum aperture of f/0.95.
