Polaroid today announced the Polaroid Pop, a new digital instant camera that creates instant photos with the look of classic 3x4-inch Polaroid pictures with the iconic white borders.

A few weeks ago, I walked outside of my house and nearly stumbled over a package. It was flat, rectangular, and large. Excitedly I read my name on the postage. “This is it,” I told myself. Quickly, I ran inside and removed the scissors from a drawer in my kitchen (the one that for some reason refuses to stay on the rails, no matter how many times I fix it) and sliced the package open.

Often when scoping out digitization projects, devising complementary conservation treatments that assist in digital photo capture are challenging aspects of overall workflow design. And so it has been the case with our recent efforts at UConn Library on a set of 19th century Latin American newspapers from the University's archives and special collections.

I feel like there's a real shortage of quality female heroes these days throughout our entertainment media. They always seem to be flawed in one way or another by the system that produces them. They're either a distressed, incapable damsel, or an obnoxious, loud-and-proud feminist who deems it necessary to remind the audience that she's a woman every five seconds (just in case we didn't notice).

Every time you upload a photo to Facebook, the social network analyzes it and adds tags so that a computer can "describe" your photo to any visually impaired friends who run across it with their screen reader. Now, you too can see what Facebook is "seeing" in your photos.

It's only four days into 2017, and already we have a contender for the most cinematic drone footage of the year. This short clip, shot by FPV drone user Gab707, would be right at home at the beginning of a Lord of the Rings movie. Frankly, it looks more like CGI than drone footage.

The flagship GH5 was Panasonic's big reveal of CES (and probably 2017), but the company didn't stop there. Also revealed today is the 4K capable compact GX850 and the 60x superzoom FZ80, both powerful cameras in their own right.

Ever since his son, Stan, was born two years ago, British army photographer Timothy Jones has shot one portrait every month of Stan sitting with Jones' 6-year-old Beagle named Jasper. The resulting series of 24 photos shows Stan growing from a newborn into a toddler with his canine friend by his side.

We're not expecting a lot of exciting camera announcements from CES this year, but the Panasonic GH5 is a big fat exception. After teasing us at Photokina, Panasonic has finally unveiled the long-awaited followup to the much-loved GH4.

There's a Gmail add-on feature that photographers and others always seem to benefit from once they find out about it. I've been using it since it has been available and it has been amazing. If there are any responses that you continually re-write over and over again, Gmail's "Canned Responses" feature is there to help.

Amazon rocked the photo printing industry back in September 2016 when it announced its own printing service called Amazon Prints. The service drastically undercut the prices in the industry offered by the likes of Shutterfly, Snapfish, and Mixbook. What many consumers may not realize, however, is that Amazon Prints is essentially Snapfish in disguise.

We've shared some pretty impressive videos of professional models doing their pro model thing for the camera, but this Japanese model absolutely takes the cake. He doesn't even flinch when his pants drop during a shoot.

The Sahara is a dry and hot desert that's roughly the size of the United States, making it the largest hot desert in the world. On December 19th, snow fell near the Algerian town of Ain Sefra -- it was the first snow fall in that area in 37 years.

Compact camera lovers got a nod from Canon today at CES. The Japanese camera giant unveiled their latest compact camera, the PowerShot G9 X Mark II, packing a powerful processor and some serious speed into the most portable 1-inch sensor camera on the market.

Photojournalist and cameraman Austin Raishbrook is being hailed as a hero after the veteran news photographer ran across a California freeway on New Year's Eve to pull a man out of his burning SUV, ultimately saving his life.

What's your computer's favorite photo? It seems like a ridiculous question, but EyeEm recently asked their AI something similar. Since no single human could possibly go through the millions of images uploaded to their service last year, EyeEm let their special EyeEm Vision AI pick the Top Photos of 2016.

Human trafficking is a horrific problem that affects an estimated 20+ million people globally, but don't let that statistic overwhelm you. Thanks to the camera app TraffickCam, anybody with a smartphone can help fight this horror in a small way: by taking pictures of their hotel room when they travel.

This striking timelapse is rapidly going viral online. The video captures what appears to be a thick bank of smog rolling into Beijing yesterday—20 minutes compressed into 12 shocking seconds of timelapse footage.

In this blog I would like to show you one of the scariest churches I have ever visited, back in March 2015. The church is located in a small town in the Czech Republic, and it was originally built in the 14th century.

When photographer Paul Schlemmer started out in photography in his late teens, he spent the first four years studying the subject of light. As he became more proficient, he began sketching lighting diagrams to share how photos were lit and constructed.

Want a glimpse into the star-studded everyday life of a celebrity photographer? Photographer Noam Galai just published the above 7-minute video with 1 second from each day in 2016.

These days, more and more of what you think are real photos are actually CGI renderings. But have you seen "CGI renderings" that are actually real photos?

German photographer Christian Schmidt was commissioned last year to shoot a series of photos of the world, from the perspective of Earth itself.

My name is Paul Fehr, and I recently proposed to my girlfriend, Ale, in a photography darkroom. Here's how I did it.

Here's a solid photo tip: never take a picture that involves someone squatting right next to a wild crocodile. A French woman was injured in Thailand yesterday after she tried to pose for a snapshot next to a large croc.
