Challenge: Capturing a Professional Looking Fast Food Ad With a Take-Out Burger and an iPhone

It’s not news to most of us that the majority of food photography doesn’t feature the actual food you’ll receive in the establishment. Or if it does, it features a lot more besides.

So the question becomes: is it possible to make a take-away McDonald’s quarter-pounder look like the piece of culinary perfection we see in advertisements using nothing more than an iPhone? We’re about to find out.

Armed with only an iPhone, two iPads as ‘softboxes’ and a handful of burgers from McDonald’s, the team from DRTV decided to give authentic fast food ad photography a try. The nine minute video covers the honest and humorous process that went into capturing the final image.

Rather surprisingly, with enough olive oil, toothpicks and patience, the final shot turned out pretty impressive.
