‘Urban Isolation’ Follows a Skateboarder Through a Cityscape Void of Human Existence

The Berrics, in collaboration with Red.com has released the final installment of their REDirect series, an 11-piece video collection created to celebrate the niche of skateboard filmmaking. The final piece, shown above, is aptly titled Urban Isolation.

Directed, filmed and edited by renowned skateboard filmmaker Russel Houghten, Urban Isolation follows around a lone skateboarder, skating the empty bridges, streets and overpasses of an otherwise busy cityscape void of any other human life.

While the concept itself is an incredible feat, the follow-through of production is extremely well done, bringing a contrast of scenes, a number of unique compositional elements, and wonderfully-graded film.

If you’re wanting to see a bit of the BTS process, have no fear. RED documented the making of this piece, as can be seen, here.

If you’d like to read up more on Urban Isolation, Houghten shared his artist statement over on The Berrics’s website.
