Humor: Job Alert! Flapjack Fortune Awaits Lucky Photographer

Who says there are no paying photography jobs anymore? Just shift your attention to Liberal, Kansas, where the organizers of International Pancake Day are now accepting bids for an official event photographer.

And this is no point-and-shoot gig. The home page for the event — which includes a series of races and other contests that date back to 1445 in English sister city Olney — includes a hilariously detailed list of the responsibilities that come with the job.

Those include a minimum number of usable shots for: Flipping contest, cooking contest, eating contest, merchandise sale, pancake chase, Christian artist showcase, Miss Liberal, dignitary reception, talent show, breakfast, races, shriving service (a religious ceremony associated with the pre-Lenten festival), Web chat and parade.

You’ll also need to supply at least two poses for every event or award winner and document any visitors from Ol’ Blighty.

This is open bidding, so you’ll need research going rates in the area. But a quick search of nearby Craigslist activity is not altogether encouraging, suggesting that hereabouts, several hours of professional photography services = one used bicycle.
