Playing with the World Through Forced Perspective

You’ve probably seen (and taken) forced perspective photos before, but South Korean artist June Bum Park goes one step further, using footage from cameras in high places to control cars, pedestrians, and other things in the scene as if playing with a miniature world.

Interesting idea, but honestly, after about 30 seconds, I had to turn it off. It doesn’t have 12 minutes (total time of all 3 vids) of clever juice in it.

It reminded me of this great (short) video I saw a number of years ago of two hands using cars and people like turntables – http://wheelstv.tv/iptv/video/254/Turntable-Street-Cars

Looks like he actually shot the video first and then played it back on a flat screen doing the hand manips on that. Otherwise he has a ridiculously large depth of field to have the far distance and his hands in focus. So he shoots it a second time with his hands doing the manipulations over the top of a flat screen playing back he original video. Especially the night shots in the second one wouldn’t really be possible to have that much depth of field and still see anything I don’t think.

yeah.. after 30 seconds, it just got boring.
also the first one shows how bad some people are at parking!

I definitely think this was played back and he did stop animation of his hands over the video to achieve the affect. Didn’t think for one second that this could have been pulled off in camera.
