Having old photographs restored is a service that many residents in China can’t afford, but a 76-year-old man named Baojun Yuan is doing his part to help his fellow citizens by offering his astonishing Photoshop talents free of charge. After learning how to use the program when he was 60 years old, Yuan purchased a computer and scanner, and has fixed more than 2,000 photographs. He says, “my teacher just taught me how to repair the photos, but he forgot to tell me how to charge.”

    A bit unfair don’t you think? Innuendo is a marvellous tool. A way to diminish a person’s work/reputation without really saying or knowing anything about them.

    Personally I think it’s great that he’s picked this up and is providing this service to his community into his 70s. The work he’s done is absolutely amazing.

    Snap! You are right. It mentioned his purchase of a computer and scanner but not the PS. It would be even more amazing if he also bought the PS, so I’d like to know. I respect him in either case, his generosity and skill should not be impugned.

    Nah, I donated a copy, legally bought, to him. It’s not the latest and greatest CS5 though but a Craigslist ‘used’ standalone copy for less money than you think.

    So, every one of those 1.3 billion Chinese are suspected ‘pirates’ or worst? Remember the Communist gov’t holds 1.x trillion DOLLARS worth of US Treasury Bonds that you and I will have to service. Think of the interest let alone face value when they mature.

    Some of these images have main features missing from the original… so there was either a lot of guesswork involved in the reconstruction, or he was working from similar images that have the same portrait angle and lighting. A few of them look more like paintings than photographs, which puts it more in the realm of sketch artist than image restoration. As an artist the work is pretty good. As authentic restoration… well… I guess only the relatives who knew the original can comment on that.

    Why take a beautiful story like this and assume the worst? It is very sweet that he is providing this service for his fellow man. Kudos to him. He is a wonderful person!
