‘Stormlapse’ Photographer Ryan McGinnis Shares His Most Epic Shots of 2014

Ryan McGinnis is a photographer and storm chaser whom we interviewed and featured back in 2011. After years of pointing his camera at newsworthy storms, McGinnis switched things up a bit in 2014 by introducing time-lapses into his repertoire. Although he was still learning, he did manage to capture quite a few amazing sequences showing powerful weather events.

The 4.5-minute video above, titled "2014 Stormlapses," is a highlight reel McGinnis put together to share his best time-lapse sequences.

Too Hard to Keep: A Collection of Photographs People Couldn’t Bear to Live With

Photographs help us remember important moments in our lives, but what happens when they capture things we'd rather forget? Sometimes photos are so painful that their owners can't bear to live with them, and that's the premise behind photographer Jason Lazarus' project THTK, short for "Too Hard to Keep". Since 2010, Lazarus has been collecting photos that people deem "too painful to live with any longer."

Random Acts of Kindness Captured by Car Dashcams in Russia

When a huge meteor exploded over Russia back in February, the incident was captured by a large number of drivers who drive around with dashcams pointed out the front of their windshield. The story put a spotlight on the fact that dashcams are widely used in Russia due to the prevalence of insurance fraud.

Footage from Russian dashcams found online is often quite dark (figuratively, not literally), showing horrible accidents and tragedies. Not so with the video above -- it's a compilation of random acts of kindness captured by ordinary drivers.

Time-Lapse Videos Capture Winter Storm Nemo’s Massive Snowfall

People on the East Coast of the United States was battered this past week by heavy snowfall and hurricane-level winds thanks to Winter Storm Nemo. The multiple feet of snow recorded in many areas were among the highest totals recorded in history (one town in Connecticut saw 40 inches!). Although the storm kept many people indoors, many of them decided to point cameras out their windows, creating beautiful time-lapse videos that show how quickly the snow piled up.

The time-lapse above was created by YouTube user miges3111, who captured 22 hours of the storm from his home in Connecticut using a GoPro Hero.
