Reviewer Consensus
Strong
The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.4G ED is a high-aperture prime that excels at low-light photography and delivers sharp, contrasty images with smooth bokeh. That said, the lens is a significant investment that carries a heavy physical footprint and can exhibit corner softness or focus inconsistencies at its widest settings.

For an optical design that dates from 2010 the lens still plays in the top league but it also has some caveats: The lens has some heavy coma that makes the FX-corners fuzzy at f1.4 and f2.0, and the AF is not the fastest plus the focus-ring has some slack.
-
In our lab tests the AF-S 24 produced very good results for a lens in this class. The center resolution is very good wide open already, increasing to excellent figures from f/2.0 onwards.
-
Where the beauty of this lens lies is in its bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, and subject separation capabilities.
-
Right now, if you want the best wide prime for your Nikon DSLR, this is the one.
-
[I]f you are looking for a 24mm 1.4 lens that draws a very nice bokeh and performs well at portrait distances, this Nikon lens still has some undeniable qualities.
-
Once again Nikon's revamp of their lens line-up has produced a new optic worthy of the professional gold-stripe designation.
-
So the lens is good – but is it worth the nearly $2200 price Nikon is asking for it? The answer lies with what you would like to use it for.
-
[A]mazing lens. Not going to deny the fact that it's an amazing lens. I will hopefully one day end up buying it, but it's going to be a very special lens.
-
The 28mm f/1.4 was a legendary lens, and this is just a piece of plastic that actually weighs more, but in terms of performance, this is absolutely stunning.
-
The Nikon 24/1.4G is a fast wide-angle lens for Nikon full-frame DSLR cameras, and can easily be used on Nikon Z mirrorless cameras with the Nikon FTZ adapter.
-
This Nikon 24mm f/1.4 is the world's best wide f/1.4 lens. It is exceptionally well suited to low-light hand-held photography, both film and FX digital.
-
[T]his stellar lens continues to build Nikon’s legend, and will be an essential lens for many photographers.
-
Here’s the magic question… would I buy this lens? For me, the answer is no for several reasons.
-
The whole reason you buy this lens is to shoot at f/1.4.
-
To me, this new 24mm lens has an interesting dichotomy. On the one hand, there's the pure utility of it, with extremely fast AF response and a very bright f/1.4 aperture that is capable of shooting in all the available darkness you care to throw at it.
