Reviewer Consensus

Strong

So there may be some ups and downs for stills shooters, but for video, this is the obvious choice if you're looking for a kit lens for an X-H1 or X-T3.

Fujifilm X-series users who’ve been waiting for a versatile zoom that can shoot wider and longer than the XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS, but also want a lens that’s cheaper than the XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR, will be very tempted by the XF 16-80mm f4 R OIS WR.

Really if you want a decently performing general purpose zoom lens or if you're going on holiday or want to do some landscape photography then this is a real nice option for you, so I can recommend it.

With the partial caveat regarding edge sharpness under some circumstances, overall the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR lens put in a pretty sparkling performance.

The long-awaited Fujifilm XF 16-80mm F4 R OIS WR is a great addition to the extensive Fuji lens line-up, offering a very versatile, optically stabilised focal range in a compact, lightweight package.

  • Digital Camera World

The Fujinon XF 16-80mmF4 R OIS WR is not the fastest X-mount lens in the Fujinon line-up – that's the XF 16-55mm f2.8 R LM WR – but it's smaller, lighter, cheaper, has a 5x zoom range and optical stabilisation, so losing one f-stop in maximum aperture seems a small price to pay.

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 16-80mm F4 R OIS WR covers a bigger zoom range than basic starter lenses, but is still available as a discounted add-on in camera kits.

Video is becoming more and more of a tool used by professional photographers, and I cannot recommend this lens right now because of this video issue.

[T]his is a very good lens. It's certainly not perfect and it doesn't perform as well as the 16-55mm, but it is much cheaper, it's much lighter, and has the flexibility of a wider zoom range than that lens.

The most common question I get asked at these events is “If you could have only one lens, which one would you choose?“ Today my answer is the Fujinon 16-80mm F4 because it fulfils all of my requirements.

[T]here are a lot of great choices from Fujifilm but I definitely think that the XF 16-80mm f4 R OIS WR lens will be one of the more popular lenses because it’s got a lot going for it with very little negatives.

If you prefer zoom lenses the XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR is a fine lens in my book. As I wrote above, the prime lenses are better but this should be no surprise and the differences are not leaps and bounds.
