Reviewer Consensus

Strong

The Canon PowerShot V1 is a capable, creator-focused compact camera that excels in video performance, offering reliable autofocus and professional tools like C-Log 3 and active cooling. While it serves as a powerful upgrade for vloggers and content creators, its lack of a viewfinder and flash, along with a fixed lens and rolling shutter, may limit its appeal for traditional stills photography.

I’d say most video creators will prefer it over the G7X III, and again it may end up being cheaper to buy too, but do compare it closely with the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 which can be great for handheld filming and supports a wireless mic system without a separate receiver.

  • Amateur Photographer

The Canon PowerShot V1 is very capable as a high-end compact camera for video and vlogging. But its ultra-wideangle zoom limits its attraction for general-purpose photography.

The Canon PowerShot V1 is a well-built, responsive pocket rocket of a digital camera, though it does miss out on a couple of features such as an eye level viewfinder and a built-in flash that I would have expected to have found on a compact for enthusiasts.

It's definitely a better choice than Sony's ZV-1 series. This is a great all-in-one, well just add a microphone, vlogging solution.

Even so, it shapes up as an excellent hybrid photo/video camera or a compact, pocket-friendly option for video. If you’re vlogging with a tripod, a cameraman or even shooting handheld or on a stick, the 16-50mm (35mm equiv) lens should hold up fine in most cases.
