What the Reviewers Say

  • PetaPixel 8/10

The Canon R50 takes the size benefits of the M50 and M50 Mark II and combines that with the autofocus improvements found on the R6 Mark II.

  • DPReview 84/100

The Canon EOS R50 is a very capable mirrorless camera, especially when you take its $799 (with lens) price into account. It delivers in nearly all areas, most importantly photo quality and autofocus.

  • Amateur Photographer

This places the Canon EOS R50 in the odd position of being one of the most capable cameras in its class, yet being completely hamstrung by the lack of available RF-S lenses.

  • The Digital Picture

The Canon EOS R50 features outstanding AF performance, excellent image quality, compact size, light weight, and a near-bottom-of-the-line price. There is a lot to like about this camera.

Bigger than a digital SLR, so that is annoying, but the camera itself is excellent in my view, great, funny, huge fun, easily Canon's best low-budget effort for years, and I loved testing it out.

  • Reasonably priced, straightforward to use and with plenty of features under the hood to keep the photographer interested and able to develop their style, this small camera has much going for it.

This complication, along with the somewhat cramped controls, are the main reasons we can’t fully recommend the EOS R50 as a travel camera for enthusiasts, despite its excellent picture quality and autofocus capabilities.

I'm really impressed with my R50; its images are first class like from my pro cameras, not anything I was expecting from such a tiny toy-like camera.

  • Can Buy or Not

The compact Canon EOS R50 is perfect for beginners who want a camera that can shoot video, and take pictures easily. It's basically the update to the older EOS M50 Mark II, and moves the camera over to the R series with the RF mounts.
