Samsung Sees Spike in Sales of Galaxy Flip Phones With Olympic ‘Victory Selfies’
Samsung says it has seen an uptick in sales of its Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphones after Olympic winners captured “victory selfies” with the devices on the podium.
Samsung has been a long-time partner of the Olympics. And for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, athletes were given the opportunity to take a selfie on the podium with their fellow medalists using its new foldable Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphone.
Samsung’s partnership with the Olympics has seen the technology giant give a Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphone to every one of the 17,000 athletes competing at 2024 Summer Olympic games in Paris, France.
The althetes are then able to take “victory selfies” with their Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphones (which are specially customized with a design of the Olympic Rings on the back) on the podium when they win.

North and South Korean table tennis players used the Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphone to take a historic selfie after winning silver and bronze respectively in the mixed doubles.
Meanwhile, Olympic gymnastics star Simone Biles and the rest of Team USA took a selfie with Samsung’s flip phone when they won gold in the women’s all-around team event.
These sponsored Olympic moments have reportedly sparked a sudden rise in sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphone — a phone that consumers barely knew existed prior to the 2024 games.
According to Campaign Magazine, Samsung says it saw a 23% spike in sales of the Galaxy Flip 6 on July 30, compared to the average day at the Olympic Games so far.
The company says it believes that the spike in interest came as a result of Team Great Britain winning six medals the day before.
In a further piece about the success of the Galaxy Flip 6 after the Olympics in The Independent, Samsung says that the extra awareness had been “incredible” and claimed that more people were considering the company’s foldable phones as a result.
