Tether Tools’ New Tripod Plate Makes Cable Management Way Less Annoying

Many professional photographers, especially those working in studio environments, tether their cameras to a computer when shooting. It allows photographers to instantly see full-resolution files, which can be very beneficial. However, a downside of tethered shooting is the required cable, which can be a bit inconvenient.

Tether Tools makes numerous products to help photographers more quickly and conveniently shoot tethered, including stands for laptops and cameras, monitor and tablet mounts, cables, arms, grips, software, and much more.

Tether Tools’ latest product, the TetherGuard LeverLock quick-release plate, enables photographers to connect the required cable to their camera, run it through a slot in their camera’s tripod plate, and connect it to their computer. The design helps keep cables organized and allows photographers to attach and detach the tethering cable without having to remove the tripod plate from the camera.

The LeverLock also provides an essential service to tethered shooters, keeping the cable securely attached to the camera. There is little more annoying than a loose or finicky cable connection. The plate includes a promised “five-point protection,” including a lever, an anti-slip speed bump, a pair of retention ridges, and an S-channel design for the cable to snake through. The plate itself sports standard tripod thread holes, an Arca-Swiss design, and rubberized non-slip pads to keep the bottom of the camera stable and secure.

While a product like this really only appeals to photographers who work tethered, which is a relatively small subset of shooters, it can help smooth common pain points for the working pros who do shoot tethered.

Tether Tools is a big name in the pro photo space, so the product promises the same high-quality performance consumers have come to expect. That expected quality doesn’t come cheaply, however, as the TetherGuard LeverLock Plate is $100, a rather hefty sum for a tripod plate. It also comes in a bundle with TetherPro cables, which come in every possible connection standard and are available in orange and black colorways. The bundle ranges from $120 to $140, depending on the selected cables.
