Skylum is bringing Luminar to the Apple iPad through its first official app that also works in Vision Pro.

The company says the new app will feature highly interactive controls with special sound effects and touch controls that will enhance the users overall experience and workflow when using the app.

For instance, those browsing through the program’s LUTs (Look up Tables) collection to find the right filter to use on their photos will be presented with the “nostalgic” sound of film being loaded into a camera. This design was inspired by the Skylum team’s love for analog photography and they felt this would add a level of “fun and playfulness” to the editing experience.

The first iteration of the Luminar for iPad app will feature an array of tools which Skylum says have been designed to meet the needs of creatives at every skill level ranging from beginner to seasoned professional. Some of the key tools will include the following;

  • Develop Tool: Basic adjustments for color correction, including exposure, black & white, temperature, tint, smart contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, saturation, vibrance, and vignette.
  • Key Tools: Details, Curves, Crop, Erase, Landscape (including Dehaze), and Monochrome (Black & White).
  • AI-Powered Tools: Enhance AI, Sky AI, Structure AI, and Relight AI.
  • Three Modes: Users can easily switch between Development, Filters, and Sky modes, depending on their editing preferences and the desired outcome.
  • Filter collection: Our extensive range of filters not only offers robust color correction but also pays homage to the nostalgia of film cameras, loved by many in the photography world.
  • Apple Pencil Support: Integration with Apple Pencil for precision editing and enhanced adjustment control.

In addition to the above features, the Luminar for iPad app will also be available on the visionOS for a much more immersive editing experience that the company says will take creatives editing workflow to the next level. Owners of the Apple Vision Pro will even be able to take advantage of free access to application until June 5th, 2024, after which point it will, presumably, require payment.

“Our goal with Luminar for iPad was to completely reimagine the mobile photo editing experience for the end user, making it interactive and entertaining,” said Ivan Kutanin, CEO of Skylum. “Leveraging the iPad’s platform and our advanced technologies, we are bringing to the market an app that ensures both fun editing process and professional-grade results that Luminar is known for.”

The company hopes that the apps intuitive and tactile functionality combined with the portability of the iPad will make for a seamless and enjoyable editing experience regardless of location.
