Viltrox’s 27mm f/1.2 Pro Lens for Fujifilm X is Now Available for $545
The Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 Pro Autofocus lens for Fujifilm X-mount is now available. Touted as a “masterpiece of optical engineering,” it is also remarkably affordable at $545.
Viltrox is putting significant emphasis on the quality of this optic, despite its bargain-basement price. The company says that it delivers “remarkable resolution” that is “crystal-clear” and that the optical formula mixed with its focusing capabilities delivers “superlative precision.” While it’s not uncommon to see these terms used to describe a Sony G Master or Canon L-series lens, it is pretty bold to hear them from a relative newcomer in the high-end optics space. Viltrox, therefore, must be confident in the performance.
That confidence may be well placed, as PetaPixel‘s Mike Smith reviewed the new lens last week in anticipation of its widespread availability and just like with the 75mm f/1.2 Pro autofocus lens he reviewed in February, he found it to be a stellar performer without even considering the low asking price.
“This is undoubtedly a great lens and at a price that’s designed to tempt you. It offers something you can’t get anywhere else and might just fit the bill for a range of scenarios,” Smith writes in his conclusion.
The Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 Pro Autofocus lens features a construction of 15 elements in 11 groups that uses integrated HOYA aspherical elements. It also employs two extra-low dispersion elements and five high refractive index lenses that work in tandem with a nano-multilayer coating to produce artifact-free images, Viltrox claims.
The autofocus is driven by a stepping motor (STM) and has a minimum focusing distance of 0.28 meters (about 11.02 inches). The lens has a 67mm front filter thread.
