ASMP Honors Pandemic Victims Through Global Juried Exhibition

ASMP Remembers

The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) has launched the first event as part of its new ASMP Awards program. Called “ASMP Remembers,” the prize pool is worth over $10,000 and is accepting submissions through July 10.

The ASMP explains that this exhibition will be the first event of the ASMP Awards, which are a series of exhibitions and competitions that will run throughout the year. The organization says that this will allow the best photographers in the world to have their bets work recognized. Some of these awards and competitions will be open to just ASMP and NANPA members, but others are public. This first exhibition is the latter — anyone can submit entries.

“ASMP was proud to be Ogilvy Health’s client for the innovative photo illustration campaign ‘ASMP Remembers’ honoring those New Yorkers who lost their lives to the Pandemic. The campaign, which can be found here, was selected for inclusion in the print edition of the prestigious Lürzer’s Archive,” the ASMP explains.

“As an extension of that ASMP campaign by Ogilvy Health — the healthcare arm of the 6th largest ad agency in the U.S. — ASMP today launches this special exhibition in remembrance of all those across the world who were so personally touched by the COVID-19 Pandemic, and in support of those image makers and creators who depicted this event through their photographs. The exhibition is designed to showcase the work made as a result of, or in response to, this life-changing period. All topics are open for inclusion: the work only needs to have been made during or after the Pandemic.”

The prize pool is worth over $10,000 in in cash, equipment, and other categories. As the title sponsor is Sony and as such one of the top prizes if a Sony Alpha camera body and lens worth over $4,000.

The judges are Mark Seliger, recipient of such esteemed awards as the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award, Lucie Award, Clio Grand Prix, Cannes Lions Grand Prix, and The One Show, and who among countless achievements served for a decade as Chief Photographer at Rolling Stone, and since 2014 has photographed in portrait sittings hundreds of celebrated actors and directors at Vanity Fair’s Oscar Party; Alec Vianu, Ogilvy Health’s SVP, CD, and Head of Design; and Lynsey Weatherspoon, Atlanta-based photographer, Canon Explorer of Light, and an ASMP National Board Member.

The ASMP and PetaPixel are firm partners in assuring photographers remain informed of important topics related to their profession. To read a full breakdown of the rules and submit an entry, visit the submission portal on ASMP’s website.
