Meike Launches a 7.5mm f/2.8 lens for M43, E, X, Z and EF-M Mounts

Meike has announced a manual focus 7.5mm f/2.8 fisheye lens designed for APS-C cameras and made available for Micro Four Thirds, Sony E, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, and Canon EF-M mounts.

Meike is a Hong Kong-based lens company that was founded in 2005 and for the last few years has focused on making high-quality cinema lenses for low prices. It started with small cinema primes before moving to Super 35 and Full Frame optics.

Since then, its library of offerings has grown to include photography-focused equipment as well. Its library of lenses has grown to a substantial size, and while its lenses do not promise electronic communication with a camera, they do give photographers a way to access relatively fast lenses of varying focal lengths for low prices: most of the lenses it offers are well under $200.

The 7.5mm f/2.8 fisheye lens has a viewing angle of 190-degree diagonally, 161.8-degrees horizontally, and 106.5 degrees vertically and a 35mm full-frame equivalent focal length of 11.25mm on APS-C cameras. On Micro Four Thirds, the viewing angle changes to 146.4-degrees diagonally, 118-degrees horizontally, and 89.2-degrees vertically with a 15mm full-frame equivalent focal length. It appears to feature a built-in petal-style lens hood.

Regardless of which camera it is mounted on, the Meiki 7.5mm f/2.8 fisheye lens is small, lightweight, and compact with a scant 260-gram (about 0.57 pounds) weight.

The lens features an optical structure of 11 elements in nine groups, but the company did not reveal any information about the individual glass elements or reveal if it is using any specialized optics in the construction. The only information the company has provided on the optics is a claim that they are “multi-coated.”

The 7.5mm f/2.8 has a minimum focusing distance of 0.15 meters, or about 5.9-inches. Meike did not provide any sample photos that have been taken with the lens.

Meike is making its 7.5mm f/2.8 fisheye lens available for multiple camera mounts — Micro Four Thirds, Sony E, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, and Canon EF-M — for $149, low pricing that matches the company’s history of stills-focused lenses. Meike is currently accepting pre-orders for the new lens on its site and tells PetaPixel that it intends to start shipping them on May 27.
