BTS: How Photographer Sophie Gamand Captures Her Viral Photos of Wet Dogs

If you remember our coverage of the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards, you might recall a photograph of an adorable dog, soaked with water after a bath. It was captured by photographer Sophie Gamand and won in the Portraiture category. Today, we get a behind the scenes peek at what goes into the making of her viral puppy portraiture.

In the above video, Gamand teams up with Ruben Santana, a pet stylist, to get the dogs ready for their 15 minutes of fame. The pair approach each dog with the idea of trying to capture the dogs individual personality in the photos through proper styling of the hair and composition of the photos. Sometimes the pups are cute and cuddly while others look a bit distraught and bewildered as to what’s going on.

The video comes in at only two minutes so it’s a quick watch. Produced by a team under Sony, the video does have a bit of a commercial feel, but for the insight they briefly provide, we’ll let it slide. You can check out the original series we shared here.
