Mosaic Turns Your iPhone Pictures into Beautiful Cookie-Cutter Photo Books

Back in September, we wrote that there was a new service by photo-book company Mixbook called Mosaic on the way. New details have been unveiled that offer a better look at how the service will work. In short: it’s an iPhone app that’s designed to make turning your photos into photo books as easy and as affordable as possible.

If you could snap your fingers and pay ~$20 to have a small set of your photographs show up on your doorstep as a photo book, would you? If you answered yes to that question, then you’re the kind of person that Mosaic wants to serve.

Using the app, all you’ll need to do is select 20 photographs, choose black or white for your background color, rearrange your photos if necessary, shuffle the cover “mosaic”, and then place your order. Four (business) days later, a 7×7-inch book will arrive on your doorstep for you to enjoy.

Each book costs $20 plus $5 or $10 shipping depending on whether you live in the contiguous states or Hawaii/Alaska.

Here’s a teaser video that’ll give you a pretty good idea of how the whole process works:

Unlike traditional photo book creation, which typically involves sitting at a computer for long periods of time and using some kind of web-based tool to get your book “just right”, Mosaic simplifies things by taking away much of the customization that makes the process painful in the first place.

The company’s hope is that the process will be so easy that people will begin creating personal collections of Mosaic books that provide a tangible documentation of their adventures and experiences.

The app will be arriving in the iTunes App Store in the very near future. No word yet on if/when it will be offered for Android and other platforms.
