Andy Summers is best known as a guitarist for the English rock band The Police, popular in the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. But he has also been a passionate and award-winning photographer from the film days through the digital transition to today. I believe in a happy medium, somewhere between too little and too much. Aristotle defended this view with his Golden Mean, the middle ground between excess and deficiency. Apply it to the pleasures of life, to your emotions, to your decision-making, and it makes practical sense. Even digital photography follows Aristotle’s wisdom.
Leica has finally officially revealed the M11 Rangefinder, letting us finally put all the rumors of what we may or may not expect to rest. Now that it's here, what has five years of development given us?
Leica has announced the M10-R Black Paint edition in what the Leica Store Miami is calling a "limited run." The camera is functionally identical to a standard M-10R, but the colorway is a first for any M10-generation camera, standard or otherwise.
Leica has announced the Leica M10-P "Reporter" limited edition rangefinder camera, part of the company's 40th-anniversary celebration of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award. This latest camera might be tougher than any other, as it's covered in Kevlar armor.
Leica has just revealed another M10 variant. Following in the footsteps of the Leica M10-P with its quiet shutter, the M10-D that lacks the LCD screen, and the M10 Monochrom with a 40MP black-and-white image sensor, we now have the Leica M10-R: a high-resolution version of the Leica M10 that uses the same sensor as the Monochrom, but shoots color.
Almost 5 years after the last Leica M-Monochrom (Typ 246) was announced in 2015, Leica has ditched the "Typ" number, increased the resolution, and expanded the ISO range to unveil the new M10 Monochrom: a camera that promises "an unparalleled black-and-white photography experience."
This beautifully-shot film from 2017 has been making the rounds again this morning, showing the making/assembly of the Leica M10. The Leica M10 is a $6,900 camera that some photographers swear by, but its full-frame sensor doesn't stack up well against the top full frame sensors on the market -- it's more in line with the performance of top APS-C crop sensors. That's what DxOMark concluded in its latest review of the camera.

Remember those leaked "spy" shots that supposedly show someone using the upcoming Leica M10 digital rangefinder? Leica Rumors took those images and everything that we know about the camera so far, and created some mockups showing what the camera will likely look like. The new Leica M10 will almost certainly be announced at Photokina next month, and may have quite a few "firsts" for a camera in the M rangefinder lineup.
In addition to confirming the launch date, Leica reviewer Steve Huff writes that that the camera will likely hit store shelves in late February or early March 2013.
Leica Rumors has published two small images showing what may be Leica's followup to its M9 rangefinder: the Leica M10. The camera in the photos appears to have a larger screen than the M8/M9, and is being held in a manner that suggests that it has autofocusing and live view.
