Nikon's most recent lens roadmap reveals it is working on a new power zoom optic as well as hints at a budget "holy trinity" f/2.8 zoom series.
When the Z mirrorless system was first announced, Nikon swore to deliver lenses with far superior image quality and optical characteristics when compared to the DSLR F-mount siblings, and it all started with the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S lens. Despite how good the f/4 "kit" version performed compared to the F-mount version, the $2,295 24-70mm f/2.8 S lens might be one of the best 24-70mm lenses ever made.
The updated mirrorless version of the legendary ultra-wide 14-24mm f/2.8 lens lives up to its F-mount predecessor and then some. It offers incredible performance, a sturdy and stylish build, impressive image quality, and it comes with its own screw-in filter attachment lens hood.
Nikon has just announced two of the most anticipated lenses for its full-frame mirrorless Z-series: the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S and the NIKKOR Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S. The former is the fastest AF lens Nikon has ever produced, while the latter is "the world’s shortest and lightest full-frame f/2.8 zoom lens with a 14mm field of view."
Next week is shaping up to be a big week. Not only is Sony going to announce a "new concept" camera—likely the rumored Sony a7C—but it seems Nikon is planning to release not one, but two much-anticipated Z-mount lenses.
After months of rumors and speculation, Sony has officially unveiled the FE 12-24mm f/2.8 G Master lens, styled as the "world's widest full-frame zoom with a constant f/2.8 aperture"... with a price tag worthy of the name.
After teasing an “in development” announcement late last year, Tamron’s all new 70-180mm f/2.8 for Sony E-mount is finally about to hit store shelves. With the release of this lens, Tamron will complete their “holy trinity” for Sony mirrorless.
After announcing the lens as "in development" way back in October, Tamron has finally officially unveiled the 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD for the Sony E-mount—a 70-200mm f/2.8 competitor for full-frame mirrorless that costs just $1,200. That's less than half the price of Sony's $2,600 70-200mm f/2.8 GM.
In addition to releasing three sort-of-macro wide-angle prime lenses for its FE lineup, Tamron today also announced the development of the highly-anticipated f/2.8 telephoto zoom lens for the Sony E-Mount: the 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD.
Last month, Tamron released a teaser for one new zoom and three primes that the company would be adding to its lineup of Sony full-frame E-Mount lenses. Thanks to a new report from Sony Alpha Rumors, we now know that the zoom lens will be a 70-180mm f/2.8.
In addition to the thoroughly leaked Canon 90D and Canon EOS M6 Mark II, the latest rumors indicate that Canon will also officially launch two of the previously-announced "holy trinity" lenses for RF-Mount this week: The RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS and the 24-70mm f/2.8L IS.
